Washington DC is easily accessible by plane, with three international airports within 40 miles of Alexandria. The easiest to travel to and from is Washington-Reagan National Airport (DCA). There is a shuttle from the Hotel Monaco that will provide a free ride, or by rental car it's a short four mile drive. Washington-Dulles airport (IAD, approx. 30 miles away) and Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI, approx. 40 miles away) are both easily accessible, but would require a car service or rental car to travel to Alexandria. However, with each major airline serving these airports, your options for flight pricing and timing will abound.
Old Town Alexandria has both an AMTRAK and a Metro station allowing access by rail. Amtrak runs trains to Washington, DC through it's Union Station hub via the northeast corridor every hour, and trains from DC to Alexandria every few hours.
You can also get to Alexandria via the Metro (Washington's "Subway" system). The metro can take you from Union Station, Reagan National Airport, or any other point within the system. The King Street Metro station is approximately .75 miles from the Hotel (shuttle is available), while the King Street Amtrak Station (Amtrak code ALX) is approximately one-tenth of a mile further.
The Hotel Monaco provides both valet and garage parking on site, if you are traveling by car. Street parking is metered or allowed if you have the proper permit.
Alexandria operates a free trolley service from the King Street Metro to the Potomac Waterfront every 20 minutes between the hours of 11:30am and 10:00pm. The trolley will make a stop at the street corner closet to the Hotel.
